Hearth Cooking: An Apple A Day

New Hampshire’s favorite fall fruit is on the menu for our October Hearth Cooking Saturday. Stop by the Phoenix Mill House to sample apple recipes prepared over the open hearth and learn about life in a 1830s mill village from our costumed interpreters, the Prescott Family.
Our October menu includes Children’s Boiled Fruit Pudding, Autumn Hash, fruit fritters, applesauce, gourd and apple soup, 
and, of course, apple pie. The menu features recipes found in period cookbooks and the dishes are prepared over the open fire. Samuel Prescott will be pressing apples and guests will enjoy samples of fresh cider.
The Phoenix Mill Hous is a millworker’s home where Nancy and Samuel Prescott lived in the 1830s. The mill house is located directly behind the Monadnock Center’s main building at 19 Grove Street.
Hearth Cooking Saturday is an open house program. Stop by for a few minutes or stay longer enjoying samples of the dishes.
