Hearth Cooking Saturday: Traditional Thanksgiving
November 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Traditional Thanksgiving recipes are on the menu for our November Hearth Cooking Saturday! Visit the Prescott Family in the Phoenix Mill House to learn about the history of Thanksgiving in America. Our November menu includes Carrot Soup, Biscuits with Honey Butter, Cale-Cannon, Fall Hash, Roasted Chicken, and Thirded Bread prepared on the hearth. Guests will enjoy sampling these authentic 19th century recipes.
In the mill house parlor, the Prescotts will be popping popcorn and making soap.
Hearth Cooking Saturdays are open house programs- visit for a few minutes or stay longer learning about daily life in the 1830s and enjoying good conversation by the fireside.
The Phoenix Mill House is a worker’s home located behind the Monadnock Center’s main building at 19 Grove Street. Our costumed interpreters, Samuel and Nancy Prescott, will share with you what life was like when they lived in the mill house. Hearth Cooking Saturdays offer a first-hand experience with history where you can see, smell, taste and touch the artifacts of daily life and imagine yourself living in the mill house at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
