Music in Bass Hall presents Bayou X
February 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm$20
Get ready for a wild night with Bayou X in Bass Hall on Friday, February 15! New Orleans native Peter Simoneaux will play fiddle, and spouse Linda covers the accordions and vocals. Bob Everingham on electric guitar, Luke Houk on electric bass, and Ben Carr on drums round out Bayou X for an evening of driving, contemporary Cajun and Creole dance music, from 2-steps and waltzes to blues, zydeco and jazz. They might come dressed for Mardi Gras!
The first set will be acoustic music, “yesterday’s songs re-imagined for today’s times” Second will be a dance set, preceded by a brief dance workshop. Bring your dancing shoes and get ready for some fun!
Bayou X is something new and different on the New England Cajun/Zydeco dance scene, performing both original and traditional dance music of southwest Louisiana, as well as traditional original music derived from the global Creole diaspora, including New Orleans R&B, Haitian Konpa and Twoubadou, Beguine and Kwadril of Martinique, Guadeloupe and St. Lucia, Trinidadian calypso, West African HI-Life, and more.
Their latest recording, Your Mother Must Be Something Special (2018) features original compositions grounded in traditional genres but turns these traditions inside out without ever losing sight of the party. Take a listen at https://www.bayouxband.com/yourmothermustbesomethingspecial
