Take a walk under a canopy of trees on 21 miles of historic, scenic multi-use trail between Hinsdale and Keene. It follows the Ashuelot River, crossing it several times, and passing by old mills and small farms. In Swanzey, be sure to check out Cresson Covered Bridge a short walk from where the trail crosses Sawyers Crossing Road and Thompson Covered Bridge about a third-mile down Railroad Street; and the Ashuelot Covered Bridge in Winchester. The trail has two restored railroad depots, one in Winchester and one in the village of Ashuelot. The surface is paved briefly in Keene and transitions to packed gravel for the first five miles south of the pedestrian bridge over Rt 101 and becomes double track packed dirt and grass through Hinsdale. The Ashuelot Rail Trail connects with the Fort Hill Recreational Rail Trail, which leads to Brattleboro, VT.
