The Historical Society of Cheshire County offers about 150 programs each year to help people find their place in history. The Historical Society’s headquarters on Main Street in Keene has a permanent display of local items of historical interest such as Kingsbury Toys, Keene and Stoddard glass, and Hampshire pottery. The Society also features special exhibits on the history, culture, and art of the Monadnock region. A research library has a noteworthy collection of genealogical resources, local histories, historical photos, and archives.
The Historical Society also operates a historic house museum, the Wyman Tavern Museum. Built by Captain Isaac Wyman in 1762, the Wyman Tavern was operated as a tavern for 40 years. In April of 1775, Captain Wyman led 29 Minutemen on a march from the tavern to Lexington and Concord to join in the fight for independence.
