A hiker’s paradise, this heavily wooded state park is lightly trafficked and has a variety of wildlife, several ponds and wetlands, and home to the headwaters of the Ashuelot River, which runs through Cheshire County to the Connecticut River. Numerous miles of trails are in the park, including a significant segment of the 48-mile Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway, which can be followed north out of the park to the adjacent Sunapee State Park. Leashed dogs welcomed. Park amenities include a boat ramp, boat rentals, a picnic area, a pavilion, a playground, and restrooms. The park’s campground is a hidden gem with 35 wooded campsites without hook-ups and with mixed availability for pop-ups, remote, waterfront, standard, or tent only sites.
